The semester ends next week Friday (January 17)! This will be the last day for Spanish students as their schedules will change the following Monday (see below). ESL students will continue working with me for the duration of the year!
Spanish:
Spanish 1A will be completing next week Friday. The vast majority of students will not take Spanish next semester. Generally, 6th graders take Spanish 1A (1 semester), 7th graders take Spanish 1B (1 semester), and 8th graders take Spanish 2A & 2B all year. If your child is not in 6th grade, it is possible that they will continue with Spanish 1B this year with another teacher. Please check Infinite Campus for their 2nd semester schedules or you may email me with individual questions.
With that said, students will be receiving .5 high school credits toward graduation after completing the high school exam and the semester course successfully. The exam will be given next week and the remainder of this week will be review. THIS EXAM IS IDENTICAL TO THE HIGH SCHOOL COMPREHENSIVE SPANISH 1A EXAM. Please encourage your child to study each night with review pages or online using the online textbook on the websites tab of this website.
Schedule:
Wednesday - Friday: Review
Monday-Tuesday (Jan 13-14): Speaking/ Listening exams *This will be done in random pairs of students. They will have a list of topics they will need to discuss in Spanish.
Wednesday (Jan 15): Multiple choice vocabulary/ grammar exam
Thursday (Jan 16): Written Spanish essay exam
Friday (Jan 17): Make-up exams, class survey, Spanish games
Please feel free to email me with any questions or concerns. I know this is a stressful time for many students since this is their first exam experience.
ESL Updates:
We will be finishing our unit on world celebrations this week and next before the end of the semester. We will tie up loose ends with our writing that we missed on the snow day before break, and then we will focus on science vocabulary.
Students will be writing a scientific experiment using ice and salt.
There will also be a couple reading assessments next week to end the semester.
The WIDA Access test will replace the ELPA this year. More information will be coming soon! We will be practicing sample questions in class to prepare.
Also, we are hoping to host another ESL Family Night focusing on ONLINE school resources and promoting parent involvement in February. Please look for information coming home with your child soon!
Thank you for all your support!
Please email or call with any questions! I am always here to help!
Thanks,
